“You are the master of your thoughts” ❤
If I had heard this line few years ago, I would have had a pessimist comment for it.
Because that’s what we all do, throw ourselves in the sympathy basket and then keep wondering why the pages in our life never turn. This stagnancy in our life is only us, we don’t allow our mind to grow so it thrives on the only negative thoughts we nurture.
A couple of months back I came in contact with a person who could define happiness – yes you read it right – a feeling which can come only from ‘Acceptance‘, and after which we have a different perspective for life and happiness.
Of the very few people I idolize, she is one of them – Mrs. Meghana Palwe, my teacher, guide, friend, philosopher, psychologist and what not. There’s hardly a role that exists that the lady cannot personate.
Once we were in her office, discussing the book “The Art of Thinking Clearly” by Rofl Dobelli and as usual, I showed her a beautifully framed line from the book which of course had a negative meaning (back then my mind attracted more of such thoughts).
She smiled at me and said that it is not necessary to agree with the writer’s perspective completely, and still we can introduce some optimistic pointers in our life.
Noticing my face with skeptical expressions she asked me a simple question, “What is the difference between an ant and an elephant?” and I was like, “What! Where did this come from?”, but of course, I stayed silent. She asked again with a more serious face now and I blurted out saying, “They are two different animals with their own distinguishing features.”
She asked me to think over it and I started feeling little vexed by then. So I asked her in what sense she was asking, and she reverted back saying in whatever sense you want to take it.
This irked me even more and I decided in my mind that it’s better if I surrender, so that I will at least get an answer quickly.
5 minutes later, she glanced at me and asked again, this time with her eyebrows. Still lost in my thoughts, I shrugged and nodded my head right to left and replied in the same sign language.
She calmly said, “There is no difference. Both of them are COMPLETE. The difference is seen if we compare them with one another, and I don’t see why it is necessary.“
This realization itself was so profound that it invigorated my mind with all the positive factors in my life.
I couldn’t help remember the speech of an actor, after winning his award as the best actor, where he says, “There are few things to my count that I need each day. One is something I need to look up to, another something to look forward to and another is someone to chase. First off I thank god because that’s who I look up to. To my family that’s who I look forward to. And to my hero, that’s who I chase – which is me in 10 years.”
He goes ahead and gives an explanation saying when he was 15 years old, a very important person in his life asked him “who’s his hero?” and he said he needs time to think about it.
A couple of weeks later the same person asks him the question again to which he responds by saying, “I thought about it, and I know who it is – It’s me in 10 years”. 10 years later, that same person comes to him asking, “So, are you a hero now?” and he smiles and says, “Not even close, because my hero is me at 35.” So you see every day, every month, every year of your life, your Hero should be always 10 years away. We are never going to beat our hero, we are never going to attain that. And that’s fine because it keeps us with somebody to keep on chasing.
There are two things I learned from these two personalities – one is ‘Acceptance of your current life’ and another is ‘Stop comparing yourself with others’.
Trust me, it requires a lot of patience and perseverance to accept the truth and reach this mental state. Honestly speaking, I would say I am still on the first stair of this staircase like most of you and have a long way to go. But as long as we know, what we have to do, or achieve, it simply doesn’t matter.
Keep your perspectives and principles clear and you are sure to reach your goals and also attain happiness in your journey.
Saying this I wrap up but not before saying my most favorite line…
Believe in yourself, follow your dreams and never ever give up !!! 🙂
